The Area
Cullen
is situated on the southern shores of the the Moray Firth almost half way between Aberdeen and Inverness. It is an ideal centre from which
to tour North East Scotland, an area once described as Scotland's best
kept secret. The Larch of Moray is renowned for its mild climate. The towns and villages
along the coast offer the visitor much to see with relatively traffic free
roads leading to its many attractions and places to visit.
The
beautiful sandy beaches and the harbour are a few minutes walk away and
shops together with hotels and pubs are within a five minute walk from the
cottage.
Travelling
inland from Cullen, The Whisky Trail can be joined at Keith. This trail
will take you to the many distilleries on Speyside which welcome visitors.
Dufftown which is the whisky capital of the world has the famous
Glenfiddich distillery as well as the Speyside Cooperage where you can
watch whisky barrels being assembled ready for use.
Further
a-field from Keith an hours journey by car will take you to Aviemore which
is the gateway to the Highlands and the Cairngorm National Park. A bus
service runs at weekends.
The
area has many excellent golf courses, where visitors are made welcome. The
nearby town of Buckie has an excellent full size swimming pool, a gym and
other sporting facilities.
Closer
to Cullen the coast walks are outstanding for their beauty and one can
select a walk to suit most tastes. The Aberdeen to Inverness Cycle track
passes close to the cottage and joins the Speyside Way at Spey Bay. The
surrounding seas are home to dolphins, porpoises and the occasional whale.
Sight seeing boat trips along the coast can be taken from Buckie Harbour
which is approximately five miles away.
